Nudibranchs only live weeks, months to about one year. This is their natural lifespan in the wild and in the aquarium if food sources are available. Survival really does depend on a good source of food. This includes sponges, some algae types, and hydroids. For example, the tiny Trinchesia sibogae just feeds exclusively on hydroids. In any case, plenty of healthy liverock should give them a good start.
Ref: All Nudibranch animals and pics are collected by Garry Cobb from www.nudibranchs.com.au. Please refer to this link for collector info, including a fantastic book published by ''CSIRO Publishing'', called ''Undersea Jewels'' or buy from ''Books'' on the left hand Menu: The collection area is from Moreton Bay up to the Sunshine Coast, Qld. Refer to www.seaslugforum.net/ for info on selected species.
